International Foundation Programme Computing & ICT
The programme is designed to prepare students for undergraduate study for entry to University by providing opportunities to improve their academic and general English language skills as well as helping to become more familiar with what to expect from study at a university. In addition to enhancing their English and mathematical abilities, the students will also learn study skills, the basics of Information Technology (hardware, software, systems) fundamentals of business and commerce. They will attend formal lectures, seminars, undertake practical exercises (case study project), and gain the skills of independent study and critical inquiry.
The Foundation Programme covers preparation to study the following University internal undergraduate degrees: Computer Science, Business Information Systems Management, Accounting & Finance and International Business.
The first semester covers courses that are common to all streams and the second semester caters for specific skills and knowledge required to study BSc Computer Science, BSc Business Information Systems Management, BA International Business or Accounting & Finance.
The teaching year is divided into two semesters covering 1,800 to 1,650 study hours. Semester 1 runs from September to December while Semester 2 runs from January to July. On occasions students may study 6 day study weeks. Generally, examinations take place in January and then in July, although mid-semester tests and assessments may be conducted to evaluate progress.
